Harness the power of words in the country’s “most poetic city”
Renowned poets and writers from Andrew Marvell to Philip Larkin, Stevie Smith to Tom Paulin, J.R.R. Tolkien to Winifred Holtby, all have ties to our University and city. And you could too.
Because when you walk through our doors for the first time, you become a valued member of a tight-knit community. And part of a tradition that stretches back nearly 100 years: we’ve been teaching English here since 1928.
You’ll explore global literature, share your unique voice, and harness the power of words to bring about positive change. You'll work on projects relating to real-world situations – including themes of sustainability, collaboration and resilience – and you’ll write in a range of forms from prose to poetry, to scriptwriting and non-fiction.
Plus, you’ll be taught by local, national and international experts: scholars, researchers and published authors. People who bring their research, experience and passion into everything you learn.
